Kota Tua Jakarta

The Old Town of Jakarta, or as they call it ‘Kota Tua’, is in my opinion a really beautiful place. It’s one of the very rare places in Jakarta where you can read something about the history of Jakarta in the buildings and the architecture itself.
If you have a good imagination you can throw yourself in a different time, when cars where very, very rare, most of the people used old bicycles, like the ones you can still find in small villages or in the Netherlands. A time, where people would look into the other persons eyes while talking to them instead of messaging others while pretending to listen to your story.

The buildings surrounding the ‘Taman Fatahilah’ are for example ‘Museum Sejarah Jakarta’ (History Museum of Jakarta), ‘Museum Wayang’ and ‘Museum Seni Rupa dan Keramik’ (Museum of Art and Ceramic) and some more have been recently renovated (as far as I know). Besides these buildings, there are still a lot of other buildings, waiting to be renovated, waiting to give this historical place its old charm back. It would be a shame to just demolish them and build something new there.
Today it is already a beautiful place, just imagine how incredible Kota Tua would be if the other old buildings were renovated and filled with beautiful art&handicraft stores and unique Cafés. A place were people can talk and hangout.
