Bumi Manusia

Last week when I went to my moms I overflew all the books she has.
She has literature from all over the world – european, american and asian..
Actually she has a looooott asian books (most of them translated to german Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge)…

I just finished reading a chinese book, called “Das rote Kornfeld” from Mo Yan. (I don’t know the english title). It was published in 1987.
Well, because I needed a new book to read I searched for a book at my mom’s. And I found about ten books from Indonsia! Some of them even written in Indonesian! My mom bought them back in 1992 when she visited Indonesia for about two months.
In the end I borrowed “Bumi Manusia” from my mom. The book is written by Pramoedya Ananta Toer.
Until now I had no time to start reading the book, but I’m really curious about it Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

Guess what!? Today I found some “Rambutan” in a german supermarket!
They are much smaller than rambutans in Indonesia and not that tasty.

“Common Ground”–La Biennale di Venezia

The “Study Trip” to Venice included a two-days-visit at the Biennale. Actually the exhibition was the reason why we went to Venice.

On the first day we visited the Arsenale. It was really interesting and we were very excited, for the most of us it was the first time visiting the Biennale.

Here are some impressions from the Arsenale:

Actually I don’t remember to which architects which picture belongs.. There were too many impressions in a too short time.
The third picture belongs to the part of Zaha Hadid and Patrik Schumacher… Thats one of the pictures I can remember where I took them Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge
On the second day we went to the Giardini… It was also very interesting, but the same as in Arsenale – too much impressions.. !! I really don’t know how to handle with so much input in so short time.
I really liked the part of Norman Foster. I think he did a great job interpreting the topic “Common Ground” and combined his interpretation with one of his projects (the HSBC in Hongkong).
Actually I focused on Fosters participation in the exhibition because afterwards I had to do a presentation about him. So I’m a bit prejudiced about his work at the Biennale, because if I’m honest I just overflew the other projects.

Here are some pictures from the Giardini:

Even though it was too much input I’m looking forward to the next Biennale in 2014. And in 2014 I’ll make sure that I bring a lot of food to exhibition… (The food there is very expensive and not that delicious…)

“Common Ground”–Venice at its Best!

In the beginning of November me and some other students from my faculty went to Venice. Some sort of Study Tour, 4 days in Venice, 2 days visiting the Biennale… For each part of the Biennale (Arsenale and Giardini) we had one day. Me and my friends thought that the activities from university would be very crouded and we went to Venice one day before the others. We wanted to explore the city on our own.

Before we got there we were told by the Hostel that in the evening Venice would be flooded… The Adventure began the minute we arrived at the airport – how to get to the “old city”, which boat should we use…and which of these very small allleys was the one leading to our hostel?? A lot of questions and of course we got lost on our way to the hostel.. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

After taking a short rest in our two-floor-room (!!!) in the hostel we went out to search for some rubber boots…Because the recepionist said, that the water would be 140cm over the normal state at about midnight. We were four people with only one umbrella and normal sneakers, so we definitely needed something for “Acqua Alta”.
After our first Pizza in Venice we finally found some rubber boots Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund  Prepared for the “big” water we just wandered around Venice, got lost several times…found the “Piazza San Marco”, with the moment we got there a very loud and disturbing alarm resounded…The warning system for all the Venezians, that the water was slowly coming.
We knew that the water would take a while until getting so high that we could go back to the hostel so we wandered around for about three more hours.

On the next morning, Venice was flooded… (It really looked like it would sink to the ground of the lagoon…hihi) For all of us this situation was new and unpredictable – how  to handle with the flood? Well, the most of us just weared the rubber boots and went out to have fun, to take a lot of pictures and to see Venice in actual daylight… Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund
We had a lot of fun out there, but I’m glad that I don’t live in Venice and have this Acqua Alta every year… For a vacation it’s very nice, to see another side of Venice.. Not only the blue sky, the turquoise canal and the “sooooooo” romantic gondola…. Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge

Of course Venice in the Autumn-Sun is something you don’t want to miss either… But all of a sudden there are tourists everywhere!!! (Including me of course Smiley mit herausgestreckter Zunge)

If you ever want to go to Venice I wish you a lot of fun! … And don’t get too lost in the small alleys… If you’re lost, take it with humour it actually will make fun and I’m sure you will find the way back much easier Zwinkerndes Smiley

Charming Season

Leaves turning yellow, orange and red… Even though it’s turning cold now, it’s a wonderful time in the year… it’s so colorful, especially if the sun is shining and the sky is in an amazing blue….

Berlin, Berlin

Two weeks ago I went to Berlin with a very good friend.
Even though it was for just several hours we had a lot of fun together and actually saw quite a lot.

Since it was my friends first time spending in Germany the Berlin Wall was on her “Must-See-List” and it was our first thing to search there.

P1090228(both pictures taken at the memorial close to “Nordbahnhof”)

When we arrived at the memorial the weather actually changed in minutes – from sunshine to rain. Actually a matching weather for visiting a memorial like this. On the second picture you can see some of the people died while trying to escape from East- to West-Berlin.

Afterwards we went to the Brandenburger Tor and the Bundestag, close to the main station.

Wedding Day In Indonesia

A wedding in Indonesia is always using the custom of each area of Indonesia ..
many of the events at the wedding ..if done with traditional Sundanese wedding the day before the wedding day there is an event "siraman" .. and other events ... the next day for a Muslim religious ceremony and perform other faiths to do so in accordance with their religion ..
A wedding in Indonesia is usually done in the morning ..and the party is carried on during the day ..also
there are some marriages that take place at night ....but when my seccond brother got married the day before the day of the event made traditional of natuna wedding because his wife comes from Natuna (abeautiful island at the northern tip of Indonesia)
On the next day performed the marriage ceremony in the evening with the customary procedures natuna ..
the next day in the afternoon held a wedding party..

I think a wedding in Europe as in Indonesia is very much different ..
in Indonesia is much to do and much to be invited ..
the whole family of the mother and father of all should be invited ..
I think that in europe marriage more simple and not too much to think about and not too many are invited ..

Summer Inspiration

It's summer - time for some vacation... with friends, family or your boy-, girlfriend!!
Seeing new places, meeting new people, getting to know new food and new traditions....
Thats what makes a good vacation... (at least thats my opinion)
The last week I spend in Mondsee, it's lake in Austria. There's a small village called Mondsee too.
It's a very unique place.. The first time I went there was in 1994, now it's 2012 and in my opinion nearly nothing changed... It's a place where time stands still, a place to relax, to get closer to yourself...

Some impressions of my summer vacation:
